Required Process Check-In (Sharing the Start)
The Summit Challenge is about responding to place and moment. To help protect that spirit—and to celebrate the act of making—a single process check-in is required for all participating artists. This is a simple, low-pressure way to verify that work is being created in response to the challenge and to share the beginnings of each piece as it takes shape.
- One early-stage image of the actual work being submitted: a work-in-progress photo showing the same substrate, surface, or form that will be delivered for the challenge, captured after the prompt is announced
- Date + context: include a handwritten note in the photo with your name, the challenge number, and the date
- How to share: email the image to [email protected] with the subject line “Summit Process Check-In — Your Name — Challenge No. 4”
- Why we do this: it helps verify that work is being made in response to the challenge and allows us to share works-in-progress as the exhibition takes shape
- Low pressure: one image is enough—this isn’t about perfection, just participation in the moment
The process image should reflect the same physical piece that will be submitted, not a separate study or preliminary sketch. Artists who’d like to share publicly are also welcome to post a work-in-progress image on Instagram and tag @bullthistle.gallery. Process images may be reshared (with credit) to highlight participating artists and the evolving life of each Summit Challenge.
